In Defense of the Cambridge Cops

by Me.

(That's right, I'm not quoting or stealing this article, I'm writing it myself.)

I grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts. My parents taught me that the policemen were my friends. I was fairly well behaved, so that turned out to be true. A neighbor cop sponsored me into the VFW when I came home from my first tour in Vietnam. I knew a lot of Cambridge cops, Dad still listens to them on the scanner. There are some very good men and a few slackers maybe, but I don't know of any bad cops. They wouldn't tolerate that in their ranks.

Cambridge has a very diverse population. The two biggest schools, MIT and Harvard, account for a lot of the population. MIT is mainly made up of Asian students. They have the self-discipline to study the hard sciences and become the engineers who are going to build and own the future. (Americans are mostly flipping burgers to support their drug habit, or if they go to college, they study sociology or they study law so they can sue each other and run for political office. But, that's a whole other story for another day.)

The other big school in Cambridge is Harvard. It used to be prestigious and you needed to have 1600 on the SATs and a recommendation from George Washington to get in. Then back in the 1960s, Harvard decided that diversity was more important. Third world nations send their riff-raff there because it's easier than exiling them. The other cities in Greater Boston refer to Cambridge as "the People's Republic". Harvard is sort of like a communist incubator where radical professors shape the minds of future communist leaders from all over the world and send them back out into society.

You've read the story about Dr. Gates (who holds the WEB DuBois chair at Harvard, named for a guy who was a black communist like obama back before obama was cool, except DuBois was a lot smarter and accomplished a lot of stuff). Gates was beating on his stuck front door so hard that the neighbors thought he was a burglar and called the police. When the police (one of them was black) arrived, Gates put on an attitude and initially refused to show ID and hollered racial discrimination and civil rights and the usual crap. He finally identified himself, and as the officers were leaving, he followed them outside, continuing the verbal harangue, at which point they arrested him for being an asshole and took him to jail.

Sergeant Crowley, the white police officer taking all the crap from the leftists over this incident, is a veteran police officer with three brothers who are also police officers. They grew up in an integrated neighborhood, were educated by the integrated Cambridge school system, and three of them work for the integrated Cambridge Police Department. They have close black friends and brother officers. Sergeant Crowley is NOT a racist. 16 years ago when black Celtics star Reggie Lewis collapsed and died at the Brandeis University gym, Sergeant Crowley was the officer who desperately tried to revive him by CPR.

Dr. Gates needs to shut up and count his blessings. If a "bad cop" had responded to the burglar call and taken the verbal abuse that Gates was dishing out, it's entirely possible that Gates would have found himself on the floor, deceased, beside a "throwdown" gun with his fingerprints on it.

I don't have a PhD, but somebody once told me "Don't piss-off an armed man" - common sense.
